BUNDEENA

Bundeena and its glorious and unique environment with four beautiful beaches on the fringe of one of the world’s oldest national parks and all within an hour of Sydney!

The beaches at Bundeena are Jibbon Beach, Bonnie Vale Beach, Gunyah Beach and Horderns Beach.

Bundeena may be accessed by passenger ferry from Cronulla or by road through the Royal National Park from Sutherland or Watelfall.

Bundeena is an Aboriginal word meaning "noise like thunder" (presumed to be a reference to the sound of the waves crashing on Horderns Beach).

Bundeena's first authorised white settler, Owen Byrne, was granted land at the site in 1832.

Swine Flu

Mexico has been at the centre of the global Swine Flu outbreak. The flu is a virus which actually began thousands of years ago in birds. It’s now spreading from human-to-human. It spreads in the normal way our flu does - through coughing and spluttering and health authorities are worried it will spread quickly and cause a pandemic, which is when a virus gets out of control and infects lots of people.

A pandemic is an infectious disease that spreads through populations across a large region; for instance a continent, or even worldwide.

The trouble is it's so different to our human flu our bodies aren't prepared for it. We haven't built immunity to it and that's why it's making people so sick. Luckily there are medicines available which can treat the virus and scientists are working hard to create a vaccine.

Recommendations to prevent infection by the virus consist of the standard personal precautions against influenza. This includes frequent washing of hands with soap and water or with alcohol-based hand sanitizers, especially after being out in public. The Swine flu virus can live 2 days or longer on surfaces like tables, doorknobs, and desks.

In my country which is Sri-Lanka so far there have been no cases of Swine Flu.

ANZAC DAY

ANZAC day is a national day in Australia on 25th April each year and it is a public holiday.
ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army corps, and our Australian soldiers are called Diggers. Simpson is a brave person from the First World War. Simpson and his donkey are key part of the "ANZAC legend". Simpson and his donkey called "Duffy" are famous heroes from the First World War and Simson put wounded soldiers on the donkey's back and helped them to the first aid tent.

"Defend" means "to keep safe" and the people in the Australian Defence force keep our country safe and protect us. On ANZAC day people who have defended our country get special medals and families go to marches in their towns, we wear ANZAC bandages and wave Australian flag.

The Ode is part of a special poem that is said during the ANZAC day service, the poem said "they shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the tears condemn. at the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them".

On ANZAC day flowers and wreaths are laid at the bottom of war memorial as a way of saying we have remember those people who have fought for our country.

The first thing we saw were the elephants. Then we saw kangaroos, monkeys, different kind of cats, dingoes.By this time my daughters were very hungry we sat down under a tree and we had our lunch.

After that we watched a bird show. It was amazing and we came to know there are two thousand seven hundred different kinds of birds in Australia. Then we saw the bats, koalas, snakes, crocodiles, griffes, red pandas, lions, tigers, dolphins, lizards, deers, goats. We took lots of photos.

Finally we went for a sky safari. My family and I really enjoyed it and my daughters got very important information to do their assessments in school.

HARMONY DAY

Harmony day celebration was held at TAFE on 19th of March. Unfortunately I could't celebrate with my classmates, but my friend Flor told me some students sang songs from other countries. Some of them talk about their experience in Australia. A student from an asian country played a traditional instrument. After that they stood up and sang the Australian National Anthem. Then they also sang the famous song "we are Australian" all together. After that they shared their food and drink.

My classmates really enjoyed Harmony day. I hope next time I will be celebrating with my friends.
